Are there any tweaks in iOS 16 or possibly an app that can turn the current date into a notification on an iPhone?

As it stands, if I’m using an app and need to see the date, I need to pull the notification shade nearly all the way down to see the date. The notifications show at the bottom and only requires a short pull on the notification shade and it would be so much quicker to see the date at the bottom.

I know this probably sounds like a ridiculous first world problem but it gets tiresome pulling so far down to see the date, especially on a 6.7 inch device. I wish the date would show up in the menu bar beside the time like on the iPad.

Download Shortcuts. Whip up attached one action Shortcut.

Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap. Then either double or triple tap. Scroll down to Shortcuts list and tap the newly created Shortcut.

Thanks for responding.

So I do already have it downloaded and I do use shortcuts but I’m not very good at creating my own.

I opened the Shortcuts app, and clicked to add. But when I choose the settings app I don’t see an accessibility option? Not sure what I’m doing wrong.

Oh I think I get it. The shortcut created is just showing today’s date and then the next step after saving shortcut is to go to the settings app and do the rest.

I created the shortcut and assigned the back tap to it. But when doing the double back tap the notification shows but it doesn’t show me the date. And I don’t see notification settings for the shortcut app in settings so I can change it from default never to always.

If I change notification previews to when unlocked it works to show me the date. But I prefer to have my default notification preview setting on Never.

So unless there’s a setting specific to shortcut notification previews where I can make shortcut previews be always without affecting my default, I guess I’m back to looking for another solution.

Sounds like you're missing the "Current Date" variable in the Notification action's message field.

No I have it there. the problem is my default setting for notification previews
i can long press the notification to see the time but that makes me pull the notification shade all the way down to long press the shortcut notification.

@NoBoMac Would it be possible to have a shortcut with these three steps:

1. Change Notification previews setting to When Unlocked
2. Show Current date
3. change notifications previews setting to Never

If so would you mind listing the steps to create it, please?

Ah! Got it. Alas, no, there is no way to toggle Notification settings.

Something to try: change action from Notification to Alert in the Shortcut. Those are modal and might not be tied to Notification Center and would plop down right in the middle of the screen.

This worked. Thank you!

Good to hear.

The real, easiest answer (duh moment for me): instead of a Shortcut, just have Notification Center launch with the double tap. It's one of the options.

I had actually already tried that before I began working on your solution.

I prefer this shortcut option. Having Notification Center launch on back tap makes the entire panel come down, covering the page I’m looking at. The alert shortcut shows up at/near the top of the screen and allows me to still view and interact with the page I’m on. And it seems to stays there until I dismiss it, so I can type on the page and view the alert at the same time.
