Is it possible to make a downloaded episode from the iTunes Store into a smaller file. e.g. I have a 514mb TV Show episode, is there a way i can make it into a smaller file like 300 mb or something?

Have a look for iSquint out there on the interwebs... allows you to resize videos under the advanced settings, but you might need to do a bit of research to find out the best options to use.

i tried isquint and is gave me an error pop-up. didnt work.

That file is copy protected, I don't think there's a way to convert it. At the very least you'd need a way to strip out the DRM first, and I don't know if that ever happened for video content.
