Has anyone figured out how to create a restore disk of lion without using the installer from the App store? Im buying an imac when Lion comes out, and it would be great to be able to do this. Perhaps finding a way to install the backup partition on a disk.

I'd assume that if you cloned the recovery partition to an external disk you could boot from that.

It's quite possible that approach will work. Another way to do it would be to clone your boot drive after completing installation and booting up for the first time... that's about as fresh as it gets aside from using the installer itself.

I remember someone on MacRumors saying that an Apple employee told them their would be an option in System Preferences to make a backup disk. I'm not sure if it is true though.
