I want my Mac Mini Server to be the Master computer for SMB Network activity in my local network since it's always on and I cannot automatically see announced SMB network shares. For some reason, my Macbook Pro is selected instead (it does show all the shares and it's also running Mavericks).

SMB.conf is shown in /etc as smbOld.conf and thus appears to not be used. Restoring it's name to smb.conf and putting "domain master = yes", "local master = yes", "preferred master = yes" and "os level = 255" in it does absolutely nothing as far as I can tell.

Turning off all the other computers in my network and rebooting (so it's the only computer that CAN be master) does NOTHING.

Editing /var/db/smb.conf the same as above does NOTHING

Creating nsmb.conf in ~/Library/Preferences with said options does NOTHING (and that file apparently does work when adding smb_neg=smb1_only to it to revert to SMB1 and get things like XBMC working again)

Surely there MUST be an option stored somewhere to tell the network to pass the connected network devices along to it instead of my notebook. It seems like editing the smb.conf file DID work in Mountain Lion to assign a master as I got my mother's Macbook to be mater instead of her seldom used Windows machine on her network.

I know the usual threads look to NOT make a Mac a master in a Windows network environment, but I just want to see all the connected devices (various printers, etc.) on the server machine I actually use each day.
