Probably like many forum members, I’ve curated my own customs prefs file and passed it from browser to browser for a few years now, adding any new reported performance improvements as and when.
Recently, I came across this site that automates the process of generating a new prefs file from scratch and trying it out I was amazed to find it an improvement on my own custom file - I’m guessing that the de-cluttering has had some effect and/or some of those improvements I’d added where no longer effective?
However, I didn’t think it’d do any harm to try some long established speed tricks (network pipelining) added to the new file and sure enough they made a further improvement.
So now, tested against loading times of BBC News, MacRumours and Macintosh Garden I’m seeing a 40% increase - not huge but appreciable considering the original prefs were already fine tuned.
