Platinum selling artists Incubus are looking for a few good ideas. Here’s your chance to direct your own music video. The winning video will become the ‘official’ video for the current single “Dig” and will be serviced to video and online outlets around the world including MTV. This is your chance to work with a top level band on your own terms.
Here’s what we are after. We are looking for a great video for “Dig”. The band is looking to do something outside the normal channels of music video making. The band has seen the explosion of user generated content on the web. They’ve seen how many of our fans are using their own resources and imagination to create their own videos and other digital media. The band is tired of playing the video game in the usual fashion and honestly believes that a great video can come from outside the box. We’re going to find out pretty quick if that’s a reality or a pie in the sky.
In the typical industry way we would pick a single, solicit treatments, decide on a director, then hire a company to make the video. From start to finish the process could take 2-4 weeks before a video spits out the other end. You won’t get much longer than that either. The machine waits for nobody. Approximate deadline for submissions will be January 15th.
Here’s how it might work. Incubus has shot performance footage to the new single, “Dig” from their upcoming album “Light Grenades”. The performance was shot on 5 cameras against green screen. We are going to post the footage on the web where it can be downloaded in hi res and lo res. The director will go to hosting site to download performance footage and other digital assets They will also be required to sign a release form that gives up all rights to the video in perpetuity (welcome to the music business). From there its all yours.
We don’t want to see your treatment. We’re not going to give you any budget. We’re not going to give you anything but the song and the band performance footage if you want it. The band footage does not even need to be in the video. You will not need our approvals for anything.
Once the video is done you will upload it to a website for viewing. Incubus fans will view the videos and vote for their favorite one. The Top 3-5 videos will be selected and then the band will choose the “official’ video which will be serviced to all the usual suspects.
