making a disk image

I have some design software that I would like to copy or make a disk image of for backup purposes. How do I do this? I'm running 10.4.9 if that helps.

You can make Disk Images using Disk Utility (found in Applications->Utilities)

but will that allow me to copy my copyright protected install cd's?
