I'm not exactly sure how to ask this question, which is likely why my search-fu isn't turning up relevant threads on the topic.

What I want to do:

I want to create a smaller, more streamlined version of my main iTunes library that I can still use to synch up my iPhone/iPad. Right now I've got my main library stored on my home NAS device. Its almost 150 gigs total, most of that movies. I synchronize my iPhone and iPad with this whenever I want to make changes to the library or just for backup purposes.

I would like to create a "mini" version of this master library that can be stored on either my main MBA drive or, preferably, a small 64gig flash drive. This way, I can still synch up my iPhone/iPad when I'm away on business trips in case I want to add a new movie or book or whatever.

The obvious issue is that even if I manage to accomplish this, my iPhone/iPad backups will now be spread across multiple iTunes libraries. I can likely live with this as a limitation however if everything else works.

So....any solutions? Is this do-able?
