Making a safekeep copy of my OS10.4.4 original disks

I'm trying to make a copy of the OS10.4.4 that originally came with my machine, but all the information doesn't seem to fit in a DVD. It seems I need to get double-density DVD's.

Questions are: Can I burn double-density DVD's in my iMac?
Will I be able to make the back-up's with double-density DVD's?
Any other options?
Can any unnecessary files be stripped from a .dmg of the orginal DVD?
(I ask this last question because only about an x-tra 50 MB of space are needed).
