making an image of the hard drive?

hi,

how do i make an exact image of my hard drive that is in my macbook pro?

what i want to do is, do a fresh install of mac os x and install all the apps and settings. then make an exact image of the drive then save it to a harddrive.

then anytime i need to restore i can jsut restore from the image.

To clone your internal HD, Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) or SuperDuper (SD) can do this for you.

Both work fine.

Personal preference is CCC.

If you just want to make an image to restore, then you can use Disk Utilities to create a restore image.

As sushi said, these are the best ways to accomplish the task

I have used CCC for years and it has always worked flawlessly for me
I ran into a snag twice with SD years ago and just never went back
I am sure it is fine now, and many use it
