Making an image transparent/exporting a transparent image

I need a transparent hand print (different colors also) for a project. I've gotten a hand print and used a guide to try and make it transparent using Gimp but I can never export it.

Can anyone help me? I'm sooo confused. I just need a simple program (I have Paintbrush, Gimp, etc) in order to make things transparent!

In the Graphic Converter tool palette there is a tool which lets you set a color transparent. The tool looks like a T with a wand in front of it. Double click to set which color should be transparent. Download it. It has very generous trial terms but it is worth buying.

ya i've gone to 50 other forums and they all say want with a T but all i have it a wand with a light behind it called magic pen. is there a short cut button i can press to get to it or can u tell me how to find it becaue there is no wand with a "T" in my tool bar
