Recently my MacBook has started to make a noise that sounds like the optical drive is ejecting a disc frequently while in sleep mode yet the screen does not turn on when this happens. Other than this problem it seems to be operating correctly. Does anyone have any ideas as to why it has started to do it?

Oh come on, There has got to be someone that knows what could be going on. It is the same noise you here when you open it up from a sleep state. Please help me.

I've never had my MacBook do that, but my Mac Pro does.

It's the OS looking to see if there's any media in the drive.

I haven't found the exact cause, but I've heard it can be due to drive sharing or your sleep settings.
