is there any program that can be used to compress mp3 files to be smaller?
i like to have songs as ringtones on my phone, but after putting one 3mb song on it, there is absolutely no space left at all... (pretty dodgy memory on the phone).
any help?

ps. sorry if there is already a thread on this.. but i couldnt find it

Although this is less relevant for phones, to ensure the best possible quality of your MP3 it's better to re-rip it from a CD to the new bitrate rather than to rip an MP3 to a lower bitrate.

From an article, I found the following paragraph:

Based on compression attribute, we classify audio format into three categories: uncompressed, lossless compressed, and lossy compressed.

MP3 is the lossy compressed audio format. To compress it, you'd better to lower the bitrate or sample rate of MP3 file.

Hope it will help you more or less.
