I would've thought that most of these tips are common sense.....I guess not? Why would anyone put their router next to a fish tank? !! I recently had to purchase a new modem for compatibility with system changes being made by my ISP and so I decided that this would be a good time to replace my Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station as well, in order to move forward into the future with WiFi 6. My former router and now my new one is positioned in a central part of my small condominium apartment unit, high up on a rack on top of a cabinet for optimal broadcasting throughout my unit plus out to my deck. The router has plenty of air circulating around it, including underneath it -- a cool router is a happy router.

This location of the router in my main living area has worked very well for me, as my primary computer (2018 MBP) and my wireless printer are both receiving a good strong signal, and my iPhones and iPads also easily benefit as well. Even outdoors on my deck in nice weather I continue to get a very good signal.

Hi guys,

That's just it, some of it you just don't think about! :)

I've got a media stand type thing. All the PowerPoints well set up all in place, sturdy and out of the way. I had a perfect safe cubby hole for the router, fitted perfectly in the narrow slit under the TV.....

Now after all these years, not the best place, didn't even think about it!

Regards
Martin

I don't understand why anyone would have ever thought that hiding their router away in a cabinet, a bookshelf or some other location, a "cubbyhole," especially especially if near located close to other electronic devices such as a TV, would then still ensure that the router was going to be able to deliver anywhere near the benefits promised by the ISP with a modem properly set up to provide specific results with them as well.... ???!!!!

Live and learn, eh?!
