The problem with sticky threads is that they often don't work the way they're intended to work. Members don't see them, or look past them and create their own threads.

I think the subject of your thread is enough to keep it alive and active for quite a while on its own.

That's very true. Always skip announcements, stickies, and posts from admins. I prefer to annoy others by posting repetitive threads on the same subjects that already have been covered by previous threads and/or the FAQ. :p
 
One of the problems with stickies is that only the thread starter can edit them. The sticky in the Digital Photography forum is outdated and no one can add to the list of picture thread links.

They are often ignored, too.
