Some of my browser tabs in Chrome are opening a URL that gives me this:

The URL is: http://abb8eb766baf07f809e3-a7b93ea...70365&cid=15153703652907205454211402049739354

That's a long one eh? Anyone know what this is or whether this is serious?

Yes.
"seriously" not --- it is completely bogus (as in fake/shady/false/etc), and simply a (typical) phishing scam.

Clicking "Scan Now" (but don't actually do that!) will take you to a site that will, for a fee, fix your (currently not damaged) system for you.
What you have is adware, trying to trick you into believing their little scheme. You can likely take care of that by downloading and running the current version of EtreCheck.
Additionally - download and run Malwarebytes for another (legitimate!) malware scan.

I have had instances where I had to run both Malwarebytes and Etrecheck to rid a machine of malware so now I always run both on Macs I suspect of being infected.

Never really thought of Etrecheck as a malware removal utility...is there any specific type of malware which it removes better than MWB?

1. STOP using Chrome.
2. START using MalwareBytes Anti-Malware for Mac (it's free).
