Niice! I guess he installed his new security system just in time!

Chen installed the Logitech 700e surveillance camera for about $280 just before Thanksgiving after his girlfriend's car had been broken into. The e-mails, with attached photos, had come before. But he usually deleted them if the motion was set off by a cat or something benign.

This e-mailed photograph showed a man's head peeking around the corner of his backyard. He switched on his live feed camera to his phone and saw "two guys rummaging around."

Unreal. I'd be devastated if I got robbed. I have renters insurance but the downtime would be terrible.

I panicked today when I was snowboarding and got a message from iCam. I live alone in an apartment building and have no pets so there shouldn't be any movement. It ended up being nothing but still lol.

This will definitely be an easy one to prosecute

Not if your in the UK it wouldn't be. When I was living at homeabout 10 yrs ago our garage kept getting broke into, so we put a camera on the side of it, and within a week we caught 2 lads from down the road doing it. Called the cops who wouldn't do a thing because my Dad hadn't put a sign up telling people they were bring filmed, so the cops told us they would get let of anyway because a lawyer would claim it an invasion of privacy!!

Stupid, but we put a sign up and it stopped then. TOok the camera down a year later and put a fake one up instead

This is why lawyers should be retrained!!

Invasion of privacy, on your Dad's own property??

This is just BS and bluff on the part of the legal community.

If someone calls me on my phone, I have the right to record it, without notice.

They can't do the same, under the law.

Does this garage thing not seem insane to anyone but me??

That is just insane. I mean... just wow

It is terribly ironic that a a poster sharing the name with an American folk hero would advocate death to those charged with protecting people's rights. Typical.

Ha ha, only another lawyer would say something like that. Protecting people's rights my @$$...
iJohnHenry, welcome to life in the UK: where the government films you everywhere you go, but won't uphold your rights if you try to do the same to protect your home/property.

Pity those cameras only work with Windows (for server, not viewership), and require Flash for PC viewing.

invasion of privacy?

won't be long before someone invents and app and device to house a shotgun and remote control it.

wouldn't have to worry about the privacy issue then... :)

From the stupid to the stupider

You reckon the UK law has gone crazy.

In some states in the US the home owner has the right to shoot to kill anyone who puts their hand over the front gate!

Only a fool would think you have an expectation of privacy in a public setting.

While on the books, the Defend Your Castle rules have never (to my knowledge) been tested in court.

What!?!!!!:eek::eek::eek:

Does that man I can legally shoot my mailman!!!!! or any girl scout selling cookies....

I dont think California has that law...

Not really. Think about it. It is a crime to videotape or record someone without their knowledge. If someone invites me to their house, I don't expect them to videotape me without me knowing while I'm in the toilet for example. The law doesn't exclude videotaping thieves.

Well that certainly makes sense, until you think about any situation like this and then you have to wonder why they cant make just a few simple ammendments.
