i have the Manic miner game on my ipad, does anyone know how i can backup the save data so i don't loose my progress so far. still on ios 5.1.1 and wanna upgrade to ios 6
 
You won't lose the data just upgrading to iOS 6. Now if you restore it as new, you will. Just upgrade it through the device and you'll be fine.
