At this time, I need to backup some Mac apps that are no longer on the App Store and I would like to do this manually(I have my reasons!) :p Can anyone help? Can I just copy the "appname.app" files over to my backup drive? I don't need the data or preferences but that would be nice too if you can give some advice on where to find that info on the Mac.

I'm still on OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and some apps have been updated to only work on Lion or Mountain Lion, which is a pain for those of us using an older OS. I know an Apple "advisor" can make these older apps available(at least sometimes) but I don't want to rely on them or have to go through the hassle of all the emails and waiting 24 hours or more.

I plan on using Time Machine and maybe Crashplan when I install my new drive, but I need a manual app backup workaround until then. Eventually, I'll upgrade to Mountain Lion via a fresh install and manually move my files over and re-download what I need(or what's available:eek:).

Any comments, ideas, suggestions appreciated! Thanks!
