I am trying to do a software update on my Escort 9500CI (radar detector). It requires that I have windows, which isn't that big of a deal being I have Fusion w/ xp.

The problem I'm running into, when ever I plug the usb cable into the laptop, OSX is capturing it. Usually, when this happens you get a ICON on the desktop and you can unmount it.

In this case I'm not getting that. I have to go to system info -> usb -> and then from there I can tell that it's connected.

So long story short is there anyway via the terminal, to release a USB device so that VMWare Fusion can capture it?

Or am I going to have to break down, use bootcamp and install windows?

Thanks for the help,

Make sure before you plug it in that in the settings for your VM under USB, you check 'Automatically Connect USB Devices'. Also be sure that your VM is running and that Fusion has 'focus' before you plug in the device. Fusion should get the device first.

Thanks for the tip. I gave that a shot and still no go... This is what it looks like in the system profiler.

That's odd. If I'm in VMWare, the Mac side doesn't even register a CD in the drive. It only appears in Windows. I tend to use my VM in its own 'Space' fullscreen. I wonder if that makes a difference?
