Many videos played on screen at the same time

Can this be done in iMovie? Essentially, I need around 40 Picture in Picture items to be played simultaneously.

You can do that in Motion (50 bucks). There's a tutorial from Andy Neills somewhere on the web on how to do it.

You'll need a fast computer to play that.
