Map network folder

Is there a way to map a folder for network sharing other than moving a folder to the share/public folder? I would like to share my pictures folder so my other computer can access it and I don't want to make a copy to my public folder because it eats up HD space.
Any thoughts?

SharePoints provides a simple GUI to do it. I'm sure there are other solutions too..
