I was experimenting with the ipod firmware using graphicconverter and messing with the sizes. I found most of the usual stuff like the grey apple logo and so on. If i increased the width further i could see a map of the world! Why is this on the firmware? Has anyone ever experienced seeing this on their ipod?

I've had a 2nd and 3rd gen iPods (and soon 4th) and have never seen that. Which iPod was this firmware for 4.X makes me think 4th gen, care to clarify? Future timezone support on the clock?

It doesn't specify. The file is called Firmware 4.3.0.1 so I'm assuming it's the 4th gen... You can find the file in /Applications/Utilities/iPod Software Updater/iPod Updater 2004-06-08/Contents/Resources/Updates

There is a setting for selecting a time zone on my 2G iPod. Maybe Apple was thinking of making that into a map, like in OS X System Prefs.

I don't get it.

How can you open firmware in Graphicconverter? I didn't think it was a visual thing.

I didn't either. I guess it has both visual and data on it. Also, i opened it in RAW format, incase that changes anything...

Good Point... (I believe all iPods have that, but I'm not sure...)
