Map POIs disappear after a few seconds

I am using Sonoma 14.1 and a Mac Studio. Whenever I start Apple Maps, the Points Of Interest (POI) will appear for about 3-4 seconds, then disappear. If I do a search for a specific category, the POIs will stay visible, but it is impossible to just look around an area for items of general interest. I deleted the preference files with no effect.
