Mapping sound controls to the keyboard

So I'm likely buying a new non-apple branded keyboard. While I don't use (and don't really like) having the brightness & eject controls on the keyboard, I will definitely miss having the volume controls. It seems like a no brainer to map the vol up/down/mute to print screen/scroll lock & pause - but it's not obvious to me how one would do that. I just wanted to confirm that this is possible.
