About 6 months ago, I noticed Apple Maps was keying the location extremely often, even tho I haven't even opened the app in over a year. I ended up turning location off for that app in Privacy because it was just SO OFTEN, I feared it would affect my battery.

I re-enabled location for Maps today just to check how often it keys location, and I am ACTUALLY shocked.

Once enabled, it checked it once- fair enough. It then checked again 6.5 minutes later. HMMMM. It then checked FOUR minutes later, followed by 2 minutes after that. It has been regularly checking every 2 minutes since then.

WTF!?!?!? I still haven't opened the Maps app. Probably in over a year and a half.

Anyone have any insight into this? I'm really down on Apple lately due to the auto reducing volume on my iPhone and LOTS of other stupid choices they're making lately, but this is PISSING me off!!! Why would an app that doesn't get used key its location so often and so insistently?!

Thanks.
