Maps background activity

Ever since iOS 14 Maps is continuing to show up in my battery usage as background activity (it even says "widget" in parentheses) even though I don't have it running and don't have any of its widgets on my home screens. So far since yesterday it says it used 34 min background. I do have the weather widget though so maybe that's what's causing it? It doesn't seem to be affecting battery but interesting nonetheless

I uninstalled and then reinstalled maps this morning and whatever it was it stopped.

Does this happen when not travelling too?
Does maps run in background when connected to carplay?

Nope but I did end up fixing it by reinstalling the maps app.
