maps.google.com not working on ipad

Is anyone else having the issue that maps.google.com is not working in safari on the ipad. just stuck in a loading loop over here.

Works fine. Just noticed that it's optimized for mobile use, although I've never needed to use it because the included Maps app is basically Google Maps.

Notices this myself for the first time as well. Has a very nice interface and is surprisingly fast.

the mobile version has way more features compared to the neutered apple version

The WiFi iPad doesn't have GPS and relies on WiFi-based location services if it is ON. Even when ON, if your router has moved recently or your area isn't well "mapped", you may not get good results.

For WiFi only models, if you are tethered to your iPhone via WiFi the phone will pass GPS info to your iPad once every minute. Tethering via Bluetooth does not do this.
