Maps voice guidance doesn't work while in charging mode?

I took my so on a trip the other day, went to use Google Maps navigation for directions on m 5s. The sound will not work while the phone is plugged into my cars USB outlet. I then tried it in my house and no luck also. Is this due to my phone being jailbroke?
