This really infuriates me. Not only are these morons turning a festivity into a killing field & subjecting people to serious danger, but they're between 15-19 years old!

story here

"Mardi Gras will never be the same."

Actually, this kind of incident is not uncommon in New Orleans. There have been shootings at a number of previous parades (including the MLK Jr parade). Generally, gang rivals run into each other at a public event and start shooting indiscriminately.

When I lived in N'Awlins in the late 80's, I remember a TV reporter describing parade related deaths mentioning that iy is common for children to be run over by floats during the Fat Tuesday parades.

The only thing about this incident which appears different, is that it happened "uptown".

That is a very sad story eyelikeart. My prayers go out the the victims, families, and friends. Please be very careful this my friend. ;)

But when is Mardi Gras?

This is just stupid and its going to scare a lot of people - but I don't think its a show stopper....

Sad, sad, sad....and only 15...

D

We're having Mardi Gras here on Sunday. Depending on the weather the crowds can be pretty large (although nothing like New Orleans). It also happens to be the weekend with the highest checkout rate of video cameras from the university. Go figure....;)

They should have given them shooting lessons so that they would have killed each other instead of other people. Obviously, it doesn't matter whether someone under 21 can get a gun legally or not.

MARDI-GRAS WILL SUCK THIS YEAR!!!
In attempt to expand business and clean up the city of New Orleans, governor elect Kathline Blanco tried to kill two birds with one stone by moving 8 (of 32) parade lines to suburbs:

The problem with that is that this city is already a maze. No tourist in their right mind is willing to navigate the suburbs to see a parade.

Usualy we have big name celebs on the floats. This year it's a "dork-fest" with the hobbit cast from Lord Of The Geeks. (Who knows... you techies are probably into that)

Well, I'm thankful for Mardi Gras for one thing.

Having it causes us to have all next week off.

WOO!

I love louisiana.

And nope, I won't be going to a parade this year. In fact, I haven't gone to one in like 6 years.

Who knows, maybe they'll learn and correct the mistake next year.

You gotta uderstand this is a very very old city, and changing history just pisses people off. A few of theses parades have been doing the St. Charles line for over 50 years. Rex is over 150 years old. Although it's not going anywhere NOW- that doesn't mean that it won't in the future...

sorry but most tourists who were going to come to mardi gras still will. theres still tons of parades downtown, probably enough so that it'll still be shoulder-to-shoulder most of the time.

also, nobody usually gives a crap what celebrities are on the floats. especially tourists coming from outside LA. a few years back we just laughed as britney spears rolled by underneath a protective plexiglass bubble on her stupid float. guess who cared? The people who travel to la for mardi gras have a few things on their agenda probably a bit higher than seeing a celebrity on a float.

I'm not some guy from washington or somewhere telling you how mardi gras is. i'm from slidell myself, and im in baton rouge right now at LSU.

The best part of posts like that one is that it makes it so much easier to know who to totally disregard in the future.

we have our share of parades up here in the sane part of the state, where less people shoot each other, but then again, you see a LOT less boobage. Guess it's a trade-off, really. :)

and where the FARK did all you guys in Louisiana come from?
