I just tried putting my Mac into "Lost Mode". (I used the Find My app on my iPhone and used the "Mark As Lost" feature for my Mac.) This allows you to display a custom message on the lost device, and I wanted to check how this displays on my Mac in case I ever need to use it.
Surprisingly, once I'd marked my Mac as lost, it didn't show a lock screen with my custom message. Instead, it restarted a couple times and then booted directly into the Recovery Assistant app. The good news is that this let me reactivate my Mac with my password. But at no point did my custom message display anywhere. So if my Mac had truly been lost, there would be no way for me to provide contact details for someone to get in touch with me.
Has anyone else tested Lost Mode on their Mac? It seems the feature is broken.
