Mark single message as unread in threaded view in Mail?

So, the threaded view in the new Mail app on Lion is great, but is there a way to mark a single message within the thread as unread? It is really annoying to have a long thread of messages, and then when you mark it as unread you suddenly have 30 messages "unread" on your counter.

Wouldn't you just uncheck Organization by Conversation from the View menu for the moment so you can mark one message as unread?

This is simple. Click on the number that indicates the number of messages in the thread. This will expand the mess heading so all messages in the thread all listed. You selectively mark them anyway you want.
