*resolved* well - 3 seconds after i posted this it occurred to me to try a cmd-option delete in the smart album and that worked. i'll leave this up in case anybody else isn't as smart as their smart album ;0

Hello all,
I'm a long-time mac user but unfortunately I know very little about iPhones and iPhoto. My wife's iphone has recently become full so i imported all of her videos and photos onto my MBA. Unfortunately the transfer froze about 80% of the way through and it appears that about 40-50 videos did not import correctly.
The videos appears to have imported but they give me error messages when I try and play it on the computer: "a necessary data reference could not be resolved" which is the broken qt error.
If i try and manually import the individual videos it works fine. The computer recognizes the "duplicate" and asks me what to do. Strangely enough the thumbnail in this notification is broken but not in iPhoto itself.
The problem is she has over 3000 photos on her iphone and i don't know how to quickly go about replacing these. i don't want 3000 duplicate photos and videos but i don't see an overwrite option which sucks.
there's also no easy way in iphoto to sort the videos. i tried making a smart album that filters out videos, but i can't mass-delete in smart mailboxes, you have to go to the original which is a huge nightmare.
does anybody have an idea or workaround for this?
thanks!
