Honest question; maybe there's something I'm missing:
Apart from being potentially tricky to install, how does a good quality anti-glare screen protector not fulfill or even exceed this want?
It sounds like such an easy solution.

Apparently you're better at lecturing than at writing. Maybe you should re-read your post because "Case" doesn't mean "Shell" and "Matte" (in the computer world) refers to the anti-glare coating on screens. So without using the right terms or explaining anything then nobody knows what you're talking about.
Not sure why people are killing the guy for having a dream. I'd buy a black case in a heartbeat. That said, I'll buy whichever one is available.
And are we really so limited in our thinking that we can't possibly fathom the word "matte" being applied to anything but screens/screen protectors? Seriously?

There will always be ignorant people that can't see beyond their own selfish needs just learn to ignore them.
OP matte black would be excellent and reduce the appearance of smudges, in fact I think matte black looks better than gloss black.

I could case less about what color the case is. Most will put something on to protect their case.

Read what? The fact that you can't properly make a thread? Show me in your original post where you say a matte black case? I simply see it say matte black ipad3.... that could be the bezel, the case, the buttons ect ect. You come on with attitude yet you have no legitimate reason to have such an attitude. Funny stuff.
