I have had a matte screen powerbook g4 for the past 5 years. After all these years of use, I have so many permanent signs of smudges and lines that do not come off at all. this is one downside that i dislike about matte screens. I decided to switch to glossy and I am much happier. Scratch free glass, much easier to clean. I don't need to worry about the grease and oils from your fingers that will eventually work their way deep into the matte screen and leave permanent damage.

I'm not exactly delicate with mine. I periodically clean my screen with iKlear, and as soon as I do, it's literally returned to factory condition.

Obviously I can't speak for yours, but mine gets accidentally smudged more than I'd like, and it all comes off.
