So sad. What is happening to our music stars from this era (Lemmy, Natalie Cole, David Bowie, Paul Kantner, Glenn Frey, and Dale Griffin)? I don't remember a similar instance of 1950s and early-1960s stars dying off in such a short period of time.

Earth, Wind, and Fire were the first R&B band I listened to.

Online somewhere, there's a monochrome photo of White sitting alone in a stadium in, I guess, the 1970s. I can't find it amongst the band's official photos, and Google hasn't found it (yet). Does anyone have it bookmarked?

I saw the band in London in 1981 at the age of sixteen –

– the laser lights (quite something, at the time), Kalimba Tree, Let Your Feelings Show, In the Stone … very memorable (the energy couldn't be captured on film).

Of course, I cried when I learnt of his death. Around six weeks after the event (a difficult time, my late mum had been in and out of hospital).

The tail of probably my favourite video of the band: http://tinyurl.com/evil19733m2s

If you like their early 1970s stuff, listen to Open Up Your Heart … then Beauty
