Mavericks and the app store

I just bought my first Macbook and did all the updates and what not. When I head into the app store I see the Mavericks update and it gives me the option to update it instead of saying "installed". Is this normal?

What version of OS X are you running on your MacBook. Hit --> About This Mac and report back.

The physical Mavericks installer file never says installed as far as I know.

It isn't supposed to say that. It is perfectly normal. This is to allow the installer to download if you needed it for whatever reason.

Nope... this is because you have never installed the App Store version of Mavs because your machine came with it. Totally normal.
