Yep, that's my site! I've actually been meaning to make a thread on here, but I feel weird promoting my own stuff. Now I don't have to!
You did a heck of a lot of work making that site, both in the research to find appropriate software and development of the programs you wrote and also the website which is really easy to use and fun.

Why not promote it?

If installing a newer version of macOS not officially supported is possible through Open Core (Sequoia on 2015 MBP), is it possible for older version? The oldest I can install officially is 10.10.5 Yosemite.

Basically, no, I've tried before. It's possible a different Mac models might have worked out better, but really you'd be better off getting your hands on some Mavericks compatible hardware.

Do people have opinions on the animations? I turned them off for a few days while the site was on the front page of Hacker News—it's the sort of thing the Hacker News crowd hates, and there were some complaints.

I just switched them back on—without them, the site feels kind of dead and lifeless to me. But I can understand the argument in the other direction.

not a fan of the animation. there also seems to be bug where if you refresh then immediately scroll down it takes several seconds for everything to animate in.

this is like being a kid in a toy shop at Xmas time !!
Ive just installed Snow Leopard on an iMac 10,1 that had High Sierra ..and was wondering where to go from there.

Got mavericks on my iMac 5,1..and have eyetv (and Duke Nuken fav FPS)..but coming across this tis fantastic !!!

yep - 73 year old big kid !!! Big Thank you stg and WOW !!!

Hit a glitch with 'create-bootable-installer.command' - theres an 'if' near the end but its typed as 'fi'.

I corrected it but now get an 'end of file' error. I guess its cos I used 'textedit' istead of an program editor. I try to leave the program stuff to those who know wot theyre doing.. so very much error prone.

fi is how you end an if statement in a shell script. I don't see anything wrong (and the script works for me), what error did you run into?

Oh right - forgive my ignorance..I should have researched it !!

Well I was having issues with the USB stick name..I was using a stick with contoy on it n wondered if there was some formatting factor..so erased it. New name was UNTITLED but when entered that name was told not found but there's UNTITLED 1, used that but then told not found.

That when I started reading n altering content n making things worse lol.

But - good news:
Used disk utility to restore the iso to the stick, rebooted and now have Mavericks installed.

Was after midnight (NZ time), so went to bed. Will do more tinkering today.

Great. Wish I knew what the issue with the script was but I guess we'll never know. Using Disk Utility is just as good, the script exists because people were having issues with Disk Utility for some reason.

It could be just a local hardware issue ..or operator error, wow.
However I am going to try making another USB stick to free up the one I used..so can do a copy n pass of the terminal output if you want. I don't consider it a big issue and am sure others would find it works perfectly, but I guess you'd like to know for sure.

I am in awe of your work, by the way ..so definitely no gripes here.

I also tried installing on an iMac 5,1 currently running mavericks as I wanted to do a fresh install. But hit (unsurprisingly) that quirky 32bit boot factor. I'll just redo it the way I did originally.

By the way, in this revisiting mavericks journey I came across a detailed process of installing win95, snow leopard and Linux on an iMac 5,1 - not that I could think of any gain in having win95. Just thought it kinda impressive n amusing wot some guys put themselves though. Lol.
..thank goodness I'm not that clever !!

Wow - I didn't know of that website. I'm shocked that there's an updated Firefox for Mavericks. I thought I was stuck on version 78 forever. Thanks Wowfunhappy!

I wish Tahoe would return some of the Aqua controls, nice icons and the ability to delete useless apps. Then I wouldn't be so insistent on keeping Mavericks. After being obsessed with OSX since 1999 (yes, before it came out), there's no way I want to downgrade to flat & boring. (also there are SO many other things that don't work as nicely in Sequoia)

You can thank me for the website but the updated Firefox is entirely thanks to i3roly, it’s really amazing how well it works.

Installed the font fix, but it looks like it screwed up at least one font. For some reason a word with "t" followed by a letter in an italic font ends up looking like a "d" merged with an "f". Strangely, words ending with "t" aren't screwed up. The same page on Sequoia is perfectly fine.

I'll take a screenshot if you're interested. (...if not, I wont ;))

Wow - is there a way to get a new copy of 'create bootable installer cmd' without downloading it with the dmg file included ?

Im on limited data but want to try again without using the file I tinkered with.

I'm a High Sierra guy but, TBH, I'm not so keen on APFS. This issue that affects me is.forward compatibility. E.lg., I cn't read my wife's Monterey backup on my Sierra MacMini. I doln't think Steve-o would have allowed this oversight. Thanks for your great site!

Addenda to that:

What are the benefits of sticking with Sierra (HFS+) over High Sierra (APFS)?

I like my third-party apps. Many I like are 32-bit. Seriously, I can’t understand the reasoning for ditching 32-bit.

Can someone help to compare these two. TIA!

BTW, even the early APFS versions get error messages: your image failed to load, your browser is unsupported, please upgrade in Gmail. Gmail still works but... And somne browsers won't function at all. Any thoughts on that?
