I installed Mavericks on my late 2008 unibody Macbook Pro 2.4Ghz 4G RAM model 5,1 yesterday. It booted but was locking up (had some recent trouble before upgrade. Restart was stuck at gray Apple screen. I used a usb stick with recovery boot to find the hardrive was corrupted. I erased the drive and rechecked...said volume was ok. I used OSX Utilities from the recovery to download Mavericks, but it would never install. I see a orange "os x Base System" in disk utility.
How do I install Mavericks since I've tried twice the through utilities with no success?
edit: was able to put old drive in an external closure for the recovery software, had recovery assistant on a usb stick and load Mavericks to the new internal drive successfully.
