can anyone confirm that if one wanted to, they can return the linen texture in Notification centre / Launchpad Folders / Mission control ui?

i know in mountain lion and lion you could customise the mission control background, and i think you could change the folder background. can anyone confirm still being able to do this if one copies/ports the linen texture files from one of these older OS's to the new 10.9 mavericks?

i don't hate the linen and i prefer it over the current 'textures' that replaced them. i am certain in the next several betas they will change drastically, its clear that mavericks is only half done. (inconsistency between notes/reminders/calendar)

any way to print this back? maybe replace a file or change a filename? i'm not a fan of the gradient. looks bare and boring.

the linen was nice and comforting, snug even.

I'd like to know this too. I found a way to change the dashboard grid background, but would really like to change the mission control background. Does anyone know where the file responsible for the mission control background is located in mavericks?

Thanks in advance.

In Mavericks, the only thing you can change is the dashboard background. It can be done by replacing dbgrid.png or dbgrid2x.png in the resources folder of the dock app in the core services folder in the library.

However, I haven't been able to change the background for anything else like Mission Control or Notification Center like I could in Mountain Lion. There are no images that I've found in any folders anywhere. It appears that Apple replaced the linen image with a simple gray background that could perhaps be right in the code or something. Since there doesn't appear to be an image to swap I am not sure if it can be done at all. If it can, it is beyond my skill level.

There was an app called Lion Designer that allowed people to change these more easily, however it doesn't work on Mavericks and it isn't being updated to help facilitate this, perhaps because it is harder to swap out things now.

i can confirm the same experience. yesterday i was running mavericks on an external drive. i managed to bring back linen to the folders in closed view by changing the 'group ecsb' or something with the ML ones. but i could not find a file to replace the actual drop down open folder view in launch pad. same experience with notification center and mission control. kinda disappointed. atleast i can keep customising icons. i managed to change the ibooks one into a version that matches. itunes 11 properly.

hopefully someone a bit above our skill level can figure this out with code in the coming months.

i'm going to fiddle with the notes and contacts app and see if i can change them to how they were in ML. i might even experiment with copying the original ML apps over the new ones mavericks installed.

as for dashboard, ironically its the only new background i prefer over the old backgrounds from lion/ml. i think it looks much better.

i'm not even crazy about linen but i don't like that plain grey background at all.. especially in notification center. even the dashboard background i might have liked for those.

I hope so too. The dingy dark gray is definitely not as satisfying to look at as my own chosen backgrounds. We are probably out of luck though. Customization is hard on OS X I think.

I know it was long ago but did you just replace the Mavericks resource folder with the ML resource folder in order to get the Linen launchpad folders then?
