Mavericks volume control

Mavericks no longer allows me to control the volume on my external speakers via the OS...i have to manually adjust the volume on the speaker itself. Anyone having this issue?
 
Volume control issue

I had the same issue. After doing this (rebuild kext cache) :
  1. sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions/
  2. sudo reboot
the volume control worked again.
