i am inclined towards the air as it is light and fast. Can anyone get more than 4gb memory. Even an old laptop I had has 8gb ram. ideas?

The RAM is directly attached to the motherboard. Much in the same way the chips are attached to a stick of RAM, it would be difficult if not impossible to viably change the chips once they're installed.

What Apple gives ya is what Apple gives ya. Hate to say.

Depending on what you are doing with your machine, you may not need 8G of RAM. I moved from a 6G MBP to a 4G MBA and the Air blows the doors off the Pro, due to the SSD. Paging to SSD is much less noticeable than going to spinning disk. I run a pretty heavy load of apps all the time, including Parallels with Win7 going, and I'm very happy with my performance. Sure 8G would be nice, but its hardly a limiting factor.
