What is the max size hard drive the Macbook with 10.x will recognize? I have seen 320GB, will it recognize bigger? Also is it IDE or SATA?

Thanks!

Is the HD user replaceable

Unlike most PC's I don't see a lot of opening on the Macbook other than the battery, is the hard drive user replaceable?

Look here and here for directions.

Is this more of a manufacturers limitation of making one small enough for the macbook?

At this time, yes. For instance, Hitachi announced a 500 GB 2.5 inch HD, but they had to use an extra platter to accomplish that, thus making the drive 12.5 mm (too thick). Samsung then announced one that doesn't have the extra platter and is the appropriate 9.5 mm.

The 500gb is due in March, so for the next month, the 320s from WD and...Samsung? are still the largest the Macbook will take. You can find either @ Newegg.

could someone link me to a 320gig HD on new egg/some more ram. I want to upgrade once my macbook gets back from the shop. Much thanks!

You should also consider speed. I opted for a 7200RPM drive with a large memory buffer, instead of a 5400RPM drive myself, with the trade-off of less storage space. With the abuse that laptops go through I didn't want to store everything on the laptop itself, but really needed a performance boost.

I have a 500gb Western Digital Scorpio in my macbook. Works fine, no problems. I love having 432 gigs available :)
