I know this is a dumb question but I'm asking anyways. I have a 2011 MBP and online it states that 8GB is the max RAM. Is there any chance that was just because at the time there were only 4GB modules available but now I could get 8GB modules and upgrade it to 16 instead of 8? Or am I stuck at 8 until I get a new Mac?

I have a late 2011 MBP with 16GB of RAM. Yours should be able to handle the same. Go to crucial.com, download the scanner and it will tell you what you can use.

Apple only ever supported 8gb with owc confirming that 16gb passes with flying colours. You need 1333 MHz PC3-10600 DDR3

Got an early 2011 Macbook Pro with 16gb of ram, its completely possible.

Thanks guys, I'm glad I asked. I just ordered a 16GB kit from Crucial. Should breathe a little more life into my MacBook Pro.

The biggest speed bump after that will be swapping your hybrid drive with a full ssd. That will defiantly breath fresh air into your macbook

Not if you aren't using it.

You have not said why you feel you need more RAM, do you have new apps using more RAM? do you suddenly have far more things open at the same time? Are you using VM's you weren't using before??

An SSD is far more likely to improve your user experience and the overall speed of your computer, for most use cases....
