Max memory

According to crucial.com, my 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Macbook can only handle 2GB of memory...

Is this an actual maximum or is this just the recommended maximum? Anybody have any horror stories or success stories about upgrading a 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo to 4GB? Last summer I upgraded to 2GB(2 x 1GB) but I'm hoping to make it a little bit faster without forking out the cash for a new mac...

Apple officially states 2GB, so that's what Crucial will say. However, 3GB works fine and 4GB does, too, as long as you realize you'll only be able to use about 3.3GB. Check this link to Everymac:

I have a white iMac at work with the same specs (and one on the way for home) that supports 4GB (with the 3.3GB cap).

All C2D MacBooks can take 4GB without problem, it will only see 3GB in the OS.
