I did read the sticky which said 6GB is max, but that some can take 8GB.
I am looking at a MacBook Pro with a 2.6GHz Core2Duo (Penryn I think) that currently has 2GB RAM and a 200GB 7200RPM HDD. It also has the 1920x1200 matte 17" LED screen.
I may get this from a friend for a fantastic deal ($500), but I NEED more RAM and would like to max 'er out.
I've got a 256GB SSD to pop in there too!
So, how much is my max?

Model ID shows: MacBookPro4,1
Model A1261
Per Apple's ID chart, my serial number puts this at: MB166xx/A
Would it be bad juju to list my serial number if that will help decide??

Thank you!
