I'm wanting to put my backup HD's as far away from my music workstation is possible. The noise they are making is driving me crazy. What is the longest length I can have the USB cable for them?

Without repeaters, about 16 ft. for a USB 2.0. Both USB 1.1 and 3.0 are shorter at around 10 ft.

I did some research over the summer because I was thinking of running some in-wall USB runs. I actually have one run at around 20 ft. but it is a power only setup. For data transfer, I probably would not want to attempt in fear of errors or corruption of files.
