Does anyone know the maximum quality/bitrate that can be recorded from the line in port on a 2015 15" MBP?

Stereo 16-bit 44khz

buy a USB audio device if you need recording quality

robvas is right.
If you want to record music or high-quality voice, it's best done with an audio interface and decent mics.

There are units out there that offer high quality for not much money.
Also, some "ready to go" kits that bundle an interface, headphones, and mic.

Thanks. I wanted to rip vinyl via the line in port. I didn't know if it was decent enough quality though.

If you don't yet have your turntable or interface, one way to go is a USB turntable. I ripped a fairly large collection of LPs with an Audio-Technica AT-LP120-USB and the results were surprisingly good. I used Audacity on a 2015 MBP. Very happy indeed.
