MB Air maintenance

Hey guys,
I use an MB Air that has 4gigs of RAM.

I am curious of what people here think of apps like CleanMyMac. I know for a fact that MacKeeper is a borderline virus. But is there an app that can help with routine maintenance?

I liked CleanMyMac when I tried it because it just makes things convenient. But convenience comes second to security. So want to check with you on the reputation of CleanMyMac or something like that.

Or maybe there is some built in utility in Mac that can free up memory, space, etc.?

You can identify large files with OmniDiskSweeper. Moving large Photo and iTunes libraries to an external drive will usually clear lots of space. If you still have your iPhoto Library and imported into Photos, you can delete the iPhoto Library. Copy to external for extra backup.
