I seem to be having a problem with my Macbook and I am not sure if it is software or hardware. The only reason I suspect it is software is that I only noticed the problem after going to Leopard.

My 2.0ghz macbook often reports that it has about 30% battery and then it will suddenly go into total sleep mode and I cannot turn it on again even with the power cord plugged in, I have to push down the power button for ten seconds and restart.

One time I even came home, had my laptop in sleep mode and before opening it I pushed the button on the battery and four out of the five lights blinked. Then I opened my laptop and it started up and reported 73% battery life. I used it for about 2 minutes and then it went into sleep mode, become unresponsive, and i clicked on the battery and it was suddenly flickering at the bottom light indicating that it was out of battery. After a hard restart with the power cord the laptop started up again and indeed the battery was at 1%.

Yet, I still get good battery life if I have my laptop off. If I charge my laptop, turn it off and then turn it back on in the airplane I can get 2-3 hours, so the battery is not drained.

Does anyone know what might be causing this? Is the laptop not going into sleep and using up a lot of power?

Thanks
